I often receive questions about my albums and my design aesthetic. To sum it up, I like to keep things clean, simple, and all about the images. Oh…and I put a lot of love into them as well :)

Today, I received an e-mail from a woman inquiring about a boudoir photography session. She told me that she mentioned her interest in a boudoir session to her friends and that they had no clue what it was and why you would want to do one.

So, I figured I’d post up a quick little blurb about it all and include some photos of a past boudoir session to help me do some of the talking.

What is boudoir photography anyway?

Out of curiosity, I decided to Google it to find an online definition. A ‘boudoir’ is a lady’s private bedroom…*snicker*…so pair that up with a photographer taking photos of said lady in her bedroom and you’ve got boudoir photography?

Well, if you’ve seen my boudoir work, then you know that I don’t restrict these types of sessions merely to a bedroom. I’ve also shot these sessions in hotel rooms, open courtyards, studios, etc. If it’s a cool location and my client isn’t shy, I’ll basically shoot anywhere.

Why would I want to get boudoir photos of myself?

Really. I can’t stand the word ‘boudoir’. But anyway, women come to me for these types of sessions for all kinds of reasons. As a wedding gift for their husband-to-be. As a Christmas gift to their husband. To celebrate lost weight. To celebrate youth. To celebrate age. To showcase hot bodies before birthing children. To showcase hot bodies after birthing children.

Despite all these great reasons to have a boudoir session shot, I think simply celebrating being a beautiful woman is reason enough :)

So…some of you might remember the beautiful, Kim. Well, here are some more images from that session.

Kristy and Andrew set to wed on January 2, 2010…my first wedding of the year…and it was one big awesome party!

The trust they placed in me just really filled my heart (I’m *big* on complete trust from my couples) and I wanted so much to create the romantic yet fun, classic yet funky photographs that I knew they wanted. I also have to admit that the added challenge of shooting everything basically in very low light…the b&g getting ready, the details, the ceremony, the family/bridal party portraits, the b&g portraits, basically the whole evening…was a great challenge for me. Really…Kristy and Andrew’s wedding was a fantastic way to start off my year :)

The evening was full of warmth and beauty and I smile just thinking back to it all. I feel so honoured and lucky to photograph people high on love and I feel especially thankful that Kristy and Andrew chose me to document their special day.

Kristy & Andrew – I hope these images help to bring back some great memories for you and once again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for allowing me to be a part of your beautiful celebration.

The shoes. I spent a healthy amount of time with these pretty little things. A quick shout out to my future brides…shoes matter! The more personality the better :)

The rings…and the shoes…

The bride and groom both got ready at The Westin Grand on Robson. Kristy…

Then a celebratory toast incorporated into the ceremony…so beautiful…

Okay…so this was a first for me. I’ve never photographed a bride, groom ice skating on their wedding day. Kristy and Andrew surprised their bridal party by making a pit stop at Robson Square skating rink. The rink was opened for the first time at the end of November after nearly 10 years of being out of commission!

Returning to Brix to join the party…

The beautiful, super fun bride and groom with their beautiful, super fun bridal party…

The first dance. Kristy and Andrew paid homage to the romantic film ‘Dirty Dancing‘ and they pulled it off in the most awesome way!

Congratulations, Kristy and Andrew!!!

Johanna: 5’10 long-legged Swedish beauty (Edited to add – Johanna is actually 5’11 1/2!)
Chris: 6’4 even longer-legged handsome Canadian of Swedish descent (Edited to add – Chris is actually 6’4 1/2!)
Noah: *the* tallest, strongest, smiley-faced baby I’ve ever met. He’ll no doubt grow up to be handsome, blond, blue-eyed and at least as tall as his beautiful parents.

May I also add that Noah is hands-down the most happy six month old I’ve ever photographed. He smiled, and smiled and smiled. Soooooo cute!!

Alright, some photos from the day…

Just five days before Christmas, Rhea & Aaron wed with their closest friends and family around them. As usual, I felt so honoured to bear witness to yet another beautiful celebration of love. My last wedding of 2009.

This special couple…this beautiful couple…placed all their faith and trust in me from day one, and for that, I am eternally grateful. I also greatly admire their love of God and in fact, one of the first things I saw Rhea doing while she was getting ready was reading her Bible. Amidst the chaos, she found peace through reading the Holy Book. So beautiful and touching.

Without further ado, here are images from Rhea and Aaron’s wedding day.

I just got back home from traveling to Portland to shoot Rhea and Aaron’s wedding and I have to say that I really had a wonderful time. I love Rhea and Aaron…I love Portland…and I look forward to sharing more images with you soon :)
