They come. They give unselfishly. They celebrate the evening away.

I am so honoured to be a part of this wonderful cause and it gives me great pleasure to share with you images from this years’ fantastic Sunshine Gala.

Sunshine Gala 2008

It seriously rocked this year! Stay tuned!

Earth Hour…did you participate yesterday evening? We did, although I think some of our neighbours might have forgotten about it and turned off their lights half way into Earth Hour. Oh well, at least some remembered and cared enough to join in :)

We turned off all our lights and lit up candles (if you know me, you’ll know that I already light candles often), I shut down my computer, and we unplugged all small appliances and lamps. I even operated in the kitchen using a crank-powered flashlight…lol. Anyway, it was fun and the hour passed by quickly!

Captain George Vancouver perched outside Vancouver City Hall in the dark (the clock is usually brightly lit up amongst other building lights)…

The Telus Sphere (I’d still rather call it Science World) sitting along False Creek…looks like a lot of other light were on though in the surrounding areas :-/

Anyway, if anything, I just hope that it helped to make people more aware of our wasteful tendencies and that it also helped to shed some light on the issues of climate change.

Christa & Nick! From the very bottom of my heart, thank you for sharing your touching story.  Congratulations to you both!!!

The response this year was truly fantastic!  Thank you to all of the wonderful couples who submitted their love story :)

He’s beautiful.  He’s soft-spoken.  He’s helped me to open my eyes and see the world just a little bit differently.  Get out of habit and into experience.

Jesh De Rox held his Life As An Artform workshop in Vancouver last week, and I was one of the few privileged who attended.  It was intimate, informative, and life changing in many respects.  We shared, we laughed, we cried…we held nothing back.  I’ll never forget the experience.

A little belated birthday cake for Jesh who recently celebrated…being alive :)

I came home from the workshop, only to return to Vancouver less than 36 hours later to shoot an crazy fun Persian wedding with Lori Miles of Sweet Pea Photography.  Wow…what a celebration of love that wedding was!  It felt so great to be a part of it all…especially since I was already feeling so warm and fuzzy after the workshop!  I definitely felt different shooting that day in a most amazing and wonderful way.

Thank you for having me, Lori!  You know I had an awesome time shooting with you :)  Laura…so great to see you again, friend.  You’re doing such an incredible job and I see great things for you in the future!!!  Thank you also to Shirin and KC…your love is beautiful and I’m so happy that I was there to document it!  Persian weddings are DA BOMB!!

Cheers,

cj

It was a big hit…and I felt so honoured to be a part of it all! There’s nothing better than getting together and celebrating a wonderful cause with so many incredibly giving and caring people.

There was great food, bubbly champagne, silent and live auctions, more great food, awesome music courtesy of the Stardust Big Band featuring Maria Manna and Kirby Howard of the Platters with The Midnights singing backup, and plenty of people kicking it up on the dance floor! It was definitely one awesome party! Check it out for yourself!

Not only did I get to shoot Vatsana & Chris’ fabulous wedding, but I also got to attend the grand opening of Bebb Studios and an amazing seminar hosted by industry greats, Bambi Cantrell & Jerry Ghionis.  Also, if you didn’t know, Jen & Steve Bebb as well as Bambi and Jerry are all on American Photo’s list of the Top 10 Wedding Photographers in the World!

Upon setting foot in the brand new Bebb Studio, I was greeted with big smiles and warm hugs from Jen and Steve.  This non-drinker even happily accepted a cute little Bebb-tini from Jen (actually…I drank two).  Their new space looks absolutely killer…classy vintage meets sexy modern.  Oh, and they have this incredibly amazing feature piece of artwork on their brick wall.  It’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen so of course, I spent a few minutes inspecting it!  Pay Jen and Steve a visit and go see it for yourself!

Bambi and Jerry’s seminar on Monday was fantastic!  Very much like the previous Tero Sade seminar I attended in July, I left the Monday seminar feeling excited and inspired.  Bambi’s enthusiasm is simply infectious.  She’s smart and sweet and produces some amazing work.  I also love how she kept calling people ’sugar’ (which dripped lightly of a sweet Southern drawl).

Jerry Ghionis is not only rib-crackingly funny, but his images straight out of the camera are truly out of this world!  Crazy fantastic!  He showed several unedited images that I thought for sure were Photoshopped, but he totally proved me wrong later when we all watched him shoot a model then immediately download the images to show.

I also had the pleasure of meeting several other photographers over the weekend whose work I admire…

Leanne Pedersen

Miranda & Reilly Lievers of Blue Olive Photography

Chadwick Bensler of Jonetsu (I had the pleasure of meeting Camille in July…she’s awesome!)

Laura Millin of Magnolia Photographic

Jesh de Rox

Dave & Quin Cheung of DQ Studio

It was definitely an amazing weekend…there’s nothing like rubbing shoulders with some of these world-class photographers!

Oh…and a special thanks to Cheryl, Pao and Payton for giving me a little futon space for the weekend…lol.

Held at Vancouver’s Spanish Banks beach, it’s the largest beach soccer tournament in Canada. Team PRIME showed up (a regular competitor at the event) and I was there to capture it.

Good show PRIME! See you again in 2008!

Wow…I’ve been a lazy blogger lately! I guess I’ve been trying to get in some relaxation time before the flurry of activity hits me.

Things to come…

- a slide show of our Europe trip since it’s been a year since we traveled there and my family and friends still want to see more pictures…lol

- a double maternity session

- a fashion photo shoot!

- a few destination weddings (Vancouver, Seattle, Winnipeg) and a local wedding at the beautiful Sooke Harbour House

- the BCCHF Black Tie Gala at Bear Mountain Resort

- my first boudoir session…sure to be verrrry hot and sexy

Oh…here are a few images from the Bays Challenge Cup 2007 held at Windsor Park here in Victoria. No.16 is my man :)

From the BCCHF site…

Since 1982, BC Children’s Hospital Foundation has raised money to support the work of BC Children’s Hospital, the province’s only pediatric acute care hospital. Funds raised help pay for essentials such as equipment, research and education, benefiting the over 67,000 young patients from across British Columbia who depend on the Hospital each year.

Through a wide range of fundraising events and opportunities, the Foundation is united with its donors by a single, simple passion - to improve the health and the lives of the young people who enter BC Children’s Hospital every day. The Foundation’s fundraising activities involve planned giving, major gifts, Annual and Asian programs, corporate and community support, Children’s Miracle Network and special events. These activities are made possible by the combined efforts of our dedicated Board of Directors, staff, volunteers and donors.

Today, BC Children’s Hospital Foundation continues the tradition upon which it was founded. We exist to provide financial support to BC Children’s Hospital, Sunny Hill Health Centre and the Child & Family Research Institute through accountability of contributions, stewardship of donors and advocacy to better accommodate sick and injured children and their families who live in all parts of our province.

Together, we’re helping sick children get better!

I will be shooting the BCCHF’s Sunshine Gala later this year and I am absolutely thrilled to be part of such a wonderful celebration! Special thanks to Philanthropy Coordinator, Jessica Doll, for helping to make this happen.

Shown below are a couple of the promotional materials, one of which will be run in our local paper. The champagne glasses image is from the very first wedding I ever shot…in Sweden :)

Just wanted to share a couple of shots I got during the race. It was so cool to see so many sails catching wind on the water.

The regatta was held yesterday as part of the Selkirk Waterfront Festival and it was a great time! Despite my efforts to continuously re-apply my sunblock, I still got a little sunburn. I hate having a red nose and extra rosy cheeks.

The Dirty Oars definitely came out to row hard, and they did great…even posting the second fastest time of all teams for the day! However, they missed the finals by a mere 2 seconds! Anyway, they remained in good spirits and enjoyed a relaxing barbecue afterwards.

The team…

Their loud, obnoxious coxswain, Nhat (also a good friend of mine…lol)…

Kudos to the entire team for putting up their best efforts! You guys really did great job and looked awesome out there :)

Cheers,

CJ

They call themselves the Dirty Oars…and I spent last Thursday with them on the water to catch the action. They were practicing in preparation for the final regatta to take place this coming Saturday. I also got to witness a practice race against another team and the Dirty Oars obliterated them!

You looked great out there guys. Good luck this weekend!

Cheers,

cj
