This lovely couple came all the way from London, England…not just for their engagement photo session (ha!) but also because they will be wed here in Victoria in just over a week! Lucky me, I get to be there to witness and document the love :)
We didn’t have much in the way of sun, but come rain or shine, being by the ocean really is a wonderful thing. Alison and Chris were also so bright and cheery and were down for anything so they definitely made my job very easy!
Alison & Chris - I had a fab time with you both earlier this week and I cannot wait to see you both on your wedding day!!

They traveled to Victoria and definitely didn’t forget to bring their A game! Rhea, a Canadian, and Aaron, an American, met in California and have endured some long-distance love so it will be quite the celebration when they finally wed in Portland. I’m already looking forward to the wedding!
The sun was out and it was so beautiful yesterday, although it was still a bit cold for Aaron who traveled up from Southern California where the sun seems to shine endlessly! lol
Rhea and Aaron…ummm…do ya’ll know just how hot you guys are?!? Unreal. I had such an amazing time with you both and I loved how unafraid you were to try all the crazy things I asked of you…seriously!!
Anyway, without further ado, here are some images from our fun time together yesterday…
Bringin’ a l’il hood to The Empress…
You’ve been warned…these are pretty hot and risque…
Still hot…still hood…but with and old-school vibe…
I met up with Kristen and David on Monday afternoon in the beautiful Butchart Gardens (I noticed right away how tanned and relaxed they looked having just returned from vacationing in Puerto Vallarta)!
The garden is especially an important place to them because it is here that they met four years ago. So…they found it fitting to return once again for some engagement photos!
Kristen & Dave - I am so looking forward to your wedding…I already know that it’s going to be a fantastic day!! Thank you for the great company on Monday :)
She’s Canadian. He’s American. They met five years ago by chance in Taiwan where they both traveled to teach English and they’ve been inseparable ever since! Jess and Lee met with me a few months ago after flying in from Golden, Colorado where they currently reside…right in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains! You know what also lives in Golden, CO? The Coors Brewing Company!
I only share this fact because it reminds me of the funny story that Lee relayed to me regarding a big water reservoir near the plant and how all the neighbourhood kids played around it. That’s all I’ll say about that…
Okay…back to Jess and Lee…they flew in on Wednesday, I shot their engagement session yesterday, and they flew back home earlier today. Not much time for them to rest, but we did have a great lunch together before I whipped out my camera. Here are just a few from their session…
Flare…
…and more yummy flare…
Beautiful…
Flare anybody??
The sun was shining so beautifully and I couldn’t help but catch as much flare as I could…
We decided to hit up what is billed as the narrowest street (more of an alley) in North America - Fan Tan Alley…which also happens to reside in Canada’s oldest Chinatown…
Handsome…
Jess & Lee - It was so much fun hanging out with you guys! I can’t wait to shoot your wedding in June!!! Big hugs to you both :)

Last year, I ran a fun contest and bestowed upon the lucky couple a prize of a free engagement photo session. Check out the 2007 winners! It definitely felt good to pay it forward and not only did I have a blast shooting it, but I also made new friends. A great success indeed :)
So…to kick off another brand new year for C.J. Scott Photography (holla!!), I’m going to offer once again to shoot an engagement session for free for one fantastic couple! The rules are simple:
1. Submit your engagement story…fun, quirky, elaborate…tell me all about it!
2. Submit a recent photograph of you and your fiance.
3. All submissions are to be in by March 1st.
4. E-mail your stories and photographs to cj@cjscottphotography.com.
Alright folks, I’m so looking forward to hearing from you!
Cheers,
cj
Abbey & Jeffrey…thank you for being so wonderful. I sincerely look forward to capturing you guys saying your ‘I DOs’ in September!
I hope you enjoy this!
Big hugs,
CJ
Today I packed my gear and travelled to Vancouver’s historic Gastown district for Abbey and Jeff’s engagement session. You know…I didn’t realize how much I actually miss Vancouver until today. The weather was beautiful and the drive was easy.
Wow…all I can say is that my camera loves this couple! Abbey is a natural beauty with killer eyes and Jeff rocked it with his sexy smile. Totally hot couple with awesome personalities. I feel so lucky to meet such wonderfully friendly and outgoing people whenever I shoot. People like Abbey and Jeff make my job so incredibly easy! I honestly could have kept shooting because I was having so much fun with them, but I had that darn ferry to catch back.
Abbey & Jeff…thank you for coming out to meet with me. It was a blast! You guys are awesome :)
Anyway, here are some random images from today…
I seriously love this couple! Fun, friendly, down-to-earth…just super cool and easy to photograph. I can’t wait to shoot their wedding in September back at the beautiful Sooke Harbour House!
Donna & Guy…thanks again for a wonderful time! I hope you enjoy these photos!

She’s from Vancouver. He’s from New Zealand. They unexpectecly met in Paris of ‘99. It’s been long-distance love all these years (with a l’il breathing room in between), but come September of this year, he’ll be back and they’ll be tying the knot!
Earlier this afternoon, I made the drive out to the beautiful Sooke Harbour House for Donna & Guy’s engagement photo session. Donna is so sweet! Upon meeting me, she gave me a big hug and said that she felt like she knew me after all our countless e-mails…lol. Guy was also all smiles and incredibly charming with his Kiwi accent.
I really had a great time with these two lovebirds! Their level of goofiness was so on par with mine and made me that much more comfortable with them. Comfortable like hot chocolate on a cold day :)
Enjoy!
A big thank you to everyone who submitted their love story! It was wonderfully entertaining reading them all! Thank you for sharing.
While the decision was difficult, I finally decided on the couple whose story was all about the complexities *and* joys of their love for one another; a tale of a long-distance romance that I found to be simply captivating.
Congratulations to Abbey and Jeffrey!

To kick off a brand new year for C.J. Scott Photography and create a little buzz of excitement, I’ve decided that I would like to do something special :)
I’ve experienced the privilege of being supported by some amazingly unselfish people throughout the years, so now…I’m paying it forward. I am offering to shoot an engagement session for free for one lucky couple!
When I got engaged myself, back on September 5th, 2004, I was so incredibly overcome with emotion. The memory of that exact moment when Cameron asked me to be his wife is forever emblazoned in my mind. We sat on the rocks by the water while the sun was setting, laughing and crying, and to this day, I still get emotional whenever I think about that beautiful moment in time.

Contest Rules:
1. Submit your engagement story…when, where, how…tell me all about it!
2. Submit a recent picture of yourselves.
3. The deadline for submission is February 28 (the winner will be announced shortly thereafter).

I really do love photographing these two…and I’m sooo looking forward to shooting their wedding as well! Such beautiful people :)
Check out their slideshow here!

I spent this past weekend in Victoria and shot an engagement session on Saturday with Chris and Mark. I met Chris earlier this year and we just hit it off right away! Needless to say, I was very happy when she asked me to shoot some e-pics of her and her fiance, Mark. They moved about a year ago from Toronto and now make their home in Victoria…and they absolutely love it here on the West Coast! It made perfect sense for me to photograph them in the beautiful Inner Harbour by the Parliament. Here are some images from the day :)
Two weeks ago, I had an engagement shoot with my sister and soon to be brother-in-law in Winnipeg. The conservatory was such an awesome location to shoot in and it really was a blast photographing these two!At one point, my sister was singing songs from the movie ‘Nacho Libre’ (sooooo funny) and I couldn’t keep my camera still because I was howling and tearing up from all the laughter! Steve was equally amused and kept laughing as well. Also, when we were almost done with the shoot, we saw a woman plow into a tree as she pullled into the conservatory parking lot. Craziness! Never look back into your vehicle to see what fell when you’re driving on snow and ice!!!
Hey Joy…save me a piece of that corn for later…lol!
In all seriousness, Joy…you are such a wonderful sister and I cherish our relationship so much. I hope that you enjoy these photos as much as I do. It’s hard sometimes to look at you as a grown woman now, but I can easily say that you make me proud and I look forward to seeing you walk down the aisle on your wedding day. Much love to you and Steve always :)
Joy & Steve’s Engagement Photo Shoot
Love you,
Ate
As mentioned in my last post, I shot engagement photos for my sister and her fiance while we were in Winnipeg for our cousin’s wedding. We had a great time doing the photo shoot inside the tropical conservatory…it was really beautiful in there with all the Christmas lights strung up. After taking a ton of shots indoors, we headed outside and braved the cold weather to get more photos! Here are a few from the day…
I definitely pumped this slideshow out faster than any other! I did this photo shoot on Sunday afternoon and had all the photos edited and the slideshow done this morning! I shot about…oh…700 photos or so. Plus, I accidentally shot them in JPEG too (I always shoot in RAW)! But thankfully, I ended up with waaaaay more photos than I know to do with!
Anyway, Slavita and Jason were so awesome to work with and they’re quite a cute couple. Their sillyness during the shoot was also very entertaining and kept us all laughing :)
Slavita & Jason’s Slideshow
Today, I had the great pleasure of shooting an e-session for Slavita and Jason! We hit up Granville Island and had a ton of fun…it’s such a great spot for taking pictures!Since I’m feeling very eager to share, here are some images from today… :) Hang tight as there will be more to come!
